HOIMA

A somber mood hangs over Hoima District following a devastating road accident that claimed 19 lives on August 5th near Hillside Secondary School along Kigorobya Road. The victims, who were traveling on a Fuso truck from a market in Buliisa, were returning home when the tragedy struck.

According to Gerald Tulinde, the area chairperson, the truck was overloaded with passengers and market goods. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident, with preliminary reports pointing to possible mechanical failure and overloading. The Uganda Police has extended its condolences to the bereaved families and pledged a thorough inquiry into the incident.

In response to the tragedy, the Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo, has issued a heartfelt condolence message on behalf of the clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the diocese.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives and the injuries sustained in this heartbreaking incident,” the Bishop stated. “At this painful time, our hearts go out to all the bereaved families. We pray that the Lord in His infinite mercy may grant eternal rest to the souls of the departed and bring healing to the injured.”

The Bishop emphasized the importance of community solidarity and spiritual support during this time of mourning. He called on the faithful to unite in prayer and offer comfort to those affected.

“May the comforting presence of God give you strength and peace during this difficult moment,” he added. “Let us continue to offer support, love, and consolation to one another as a community of faith and hope.”

The message concluded with a prayer invoking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Consoler of the Afflicted, and the traditional Catholic prayer for the dead:

“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.”

The condolence message was signed by Fr. Dominic Ndugwa Ateenyi, Chancellor of Hoima Catholic Diocese.
