Authorities in Kikuube District in Bunyoro region have launched manhunt for a Dad reportedly said to be a casual labourer at Hoima Sugar Factory Limited for allegedly neglecting and mistreating his child.
The suspect only identified by christian name as Justs, is a resident of kajoga cell, Munteme Parish Kiziranfumbi Subcounty in KIkuube district.
He reportedly neglected his son (identified as Clever), a child with disability and has been mistreating the innocent child by denying him food.
On Saturday, authorities received reports of child abuse from the village LC1 Chairperson and when they visited the home, they found the victim under his father’s bed where he has allegedly been kept for long.
Hon Kyomugisa Teddy District councilor Kiziranfumbi Subcounty and Hon Barungi Edith PWDs District councilor Kikuube District, hand in hand with local Council ones Committee who visited the suspect’s home said the child is malnourished which shows that he’s been given food something that violates child rights.
According to Kyomugisha, they found the child in doors under the neglected bed and neglected house of his father.
She said the child looks so exploited and brutalised and abused.
Authorities interrogated the victim’s grandmother who guiltly pleaded that she received orders from her son not to provide any basic need to the victim threatening to cause harm to her life.
The grandmother further disclosed that the child was abandoned by his mother (identity protected) following unlawful divorce with her son.
Authorities adopted the child and has been admitted at KIkuube health center IV Nutrition department for a special care as a hunt for his parents is ongoing.
Kyomugisha says that this is a fourth case of child neglect and abuse in her office in a course of less than a month. She cited out a case of one child who she didn’t mention that his father denied to take to the hospital for dental care but removed the decaying tooth with a pair of pliers negligence of which has caused more decays. She disclosed that the child has since been referred to Mulago hospital and residents are soliciting money for further extradition.
Residents have been urgex to report all forms of child abuse in their area to police or local council authorities.
