Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) spokesperson also the Kiira municipality member of parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has said that he has been waiting for his sacking from his position as party whip to parliament.
“I was waiting for this….” Ssemujju said
Early this day a letter signed by the FDC party Secretary General Hon Nandala Mafabi made rounds on social media indicating that he had fired Hon. Ssemujju as party whip replacing him with the Mawokota MP Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi.
According to the August 7 letter, the suspension started with immediate effect.
In response to the reports, Ssemujju argued that his suspension is a mastermind by President Museveni through his boys within the FDC party; SG Nandala Mafabi and President Patrick Amuriat because he is opposed to the government. He said being FDC whip in parliament is not a profitable position to lose.
“I was elected by the FDC National Executive Committee, Amuriat and Nandala have no right to sack me and also there’s nothing in being the FDC Whip in parliament.” Ssemujju said
He added; “If they want it so much, I will give it to them , they didn’t even have to sack me because my major responsibility is to represent the people of Kiira Municipality.”
Ssemujju was speaking to journalists in Kirinya Bweyogerere on Tuesday (August 8), when he said that the FDC president Amuriat has been uncomfortable with him. It should be recalled that the relationship between Ssemujju and other leaders in the party led by Nandala and Amuriat is on thread after the former accused the latter of receiving dirty money from President Museveni in the 2021 general elections.
“Amuriat has been so incompetent that he even fears competition from his own people. I think he will now become a very big leader now that Ssemujju who has been disturbing him is no longer the whip and I congratulate him,” Ssemujju said
He pointed out the recent meeting with all FDC MPs in which Amuriat directly attacked and Ssemujju accusing him of speaking for long and many times on the floor of parliament noting that he denies other legislators opportunity to speak making them look inactive.
“It was hurting him but I can’t stop talking,” Ssemujju said “Ever since Museveni intervened in the party, I guess it’s the calendar that is remaining.”
Linking his sacking to the president, Ssemujju warned that his rivals relationship with Museveni may not end in good terms
“Do you think Museveni enjoys it when I’m hard on him in parliament? He has to order his boys to help him out
And they also ask, how much will you give us if we sack him?”
