A Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) officer allegedly murdered three people in Rubirizi district has stold court that he was not sober a day he committed crimes.
‘’My head was not sober because there was something disturbing me. I was not sober. It was not my plan to kill people although they died. I never intended to kill those people because my head was not clear,’’ Amutuheirize told court.
In a second division court martial sitting at Mubanda P/S on Monday, in Ryeru Sub County Rubirizi District, court heard that on December 27, Private AX017942 Bobson while in Mubanda Village, Mubanda parish, Ryeru Sub County at around 2AM, using an SMG gun number 5603545 shot and killed three people Scovia Tibakazire (died on the way to hospital), Oliver Ninsiima and Conrad Mayi and caused injuries to three other civilians.
After committing the crimes, Amutuheirize took on heels, UPDF launched a manhunt for him. He was arrested in Rutoto Rubirizi district while trying to escape to his home in Sheema district.
He pleaded guilty to killing Tibakazire and but denied murdering two others and shooting at civilians saying it was not his intentions.
Lt. Col. Emmanuel Mwesigwa, who presided over the court said a case of pleading guilty had been entered for the murder of Tibakazire whereas On the other two murder and six attempted murder charges, court entered a plea of not guilty after Amutuheirize insited it was not his intention to shoot at civilians
Lt. Col James Omondi, the state prosecutor told court that Amutuheirize had signed for the gun and 120 rounds of ammunition on the fateful day which he used to commit the offence.
The accused was sentenced to Tuesday January 15, 2021, when court will sit for hearing of the case.
