The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) has partnered with Family Search International to digitize religious records.p
The Council’s Secretary General, Joshua Kitakule says that the move will save time, preserve information for future generations and protect the environment because there will be no more cutting down of trees to make papers.
Kitakule added when fully implemented, members will access birth and marriage certificates and more information online.
He urged IRCU members to embrace digitization, and assured them of a data privacy policy to protect faithful’s information.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Akello, the Field Relations Manager of Search International, highlighted the impact of the digital revolution and urged religious institutions to embrace it.
“The world has gone digital, and there is no reason for religious institutions to be left behind. They need to record the number of followers, married couples, and baptized children, and maintain these records for generations.”
Akello emphasized that Family Search International is committed to preserving and digitizing religious bio data across Uganda’s sacred places.
