Alot of quotations have been attributed to world philosophers and other prominent persons but none of us is always bothered about verifying facts of the attributions.
While our PARROTS UG team scrutinised the famous quotes of former South Africa’s President, African nationalist Nelson Madiba Mandela, a number of quotes were established wrongly attributed to this Icon of Africa.
“It always seems impossible until its done,” is one of the quotes famously used in motivational speeches, businesses and sermons. Unfortunately, according to Nelson Mandela foundation, there is no record of Mandela saying these words.
“It always seems impossible until it’s done,” tweeted the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation in December 2016.
In December 2016, Sahm Venter, a senior researcher at Nelson Mandela Foundation told reports that the quote frequently misattributed to Mandela.
“The Nelson Mandela Foundation’s quotes database shows no results for this quote,” Sahm Venter said.
The database, which “serves as a source for accurate quotations by Mr Mandela”, is a searchable catalogue of addresses made by South Africa’s first black president.
In an interview with Africa Check in December 2016, Sahm Venter, disclosed that while the foundation doesn’t know where the quote originated from, they have no record of Mandela saying it.
