Oguzulu, Ozugulu, Oguluzu, funny how people fail to pronounce it right. Well, it’s Oguzulu!
So last weekend I joined my guys Keem and Zert from Road Trip Adventures for a 2 days road trip to Oguzulu. It’s not ok that people think that this place is in South Africa because of the “Zulu” word in it. Well, Oguzulu is a resort beach on the shores of Lake Victoria in Mukono District about 90minutes drive from the Kampala city centre.
As the culture is, we met at Forest mall Lugogo, did some shopping as we waited for other guys to come through and at around a quarter to 1pm we were good to go. The vibe was up there, I mean everyone was ready for Oguzulu.
With our silent disco headphones over the head, we drove through the crazy Jinja road jam then branched off in Mukono Town to the Katosi Road. The road that made rounds in the press because of the corruption skills that were exhibited during it’s construction.
Now from the Katosi road we branched off to a marrum road, I will be a liar if I tell you that I still recall the route we used. All I remember is that the bumpy road stretches through an eucalyptus forest on the left, a coffee plantation on the Right and then the breathtaking lake View at some points.
After the long drive making jokes about IPhone and Android devices, then Samsung and other brands like Tecno, Infinix etc strangers were already friends United by the phone jazz. One of the guys that was seated next to me, Brian Okwach cracked a joke that some Android devices were still showing Kampala as their location. Humurous as it was! Then confusion between Airdrop, I drop and then Ear drop comes in. It’s fun.
IPhone users will always assume the photography role even when you have a professional photographer on board. Android users will patiently wait at the receiving end until the photos are shared. Of course via WhatsApp. I don’t want to mention the armchair bloggers at news conferences who wait to use photos of other photographers.
Oguzulu Resort Beach and Camping site, we were there. First things first as the Tent guy was setting up guys couldn’t hold their love for water. One of the local guides at Oguzulu led us down slope to the Beach.
The walking trail from the resort to the beach will create an enchanting gate away location that you will want to return to again and again.
Swimming, Photography, Sunbathing, watching the sunset on lake Victoria is an experience you should have.
Home to unique tree species with both Local, English and Botanical names attached. It’s a spectacular location to embrace tranquility and relaxation.
Nights at the Oguzulu are funfilled, wooden chairs around the fire place, coloured bulbs in the sky, the cold breeze from the lake and then the Amapiano mixes by DJ Timox the in-house DJ at the resort. It never gets late at Oguzulu everyone is awake.
The fire place stories shall never get done. Every story teller comes in with an interesting and unique story. The truth or dare game. Risky, if you are a shy person like me, walk away before you are dared to do something crazy.
Activities done at the resort include, high ropes, Zip lining and course challenge among others at a cost.
Get time, organise and spend a night at Oguzulu, it’s an amazing experience to have a glance of the waters every time you raise your head up. Don’t forget to carry the duvets because it’s crazy cold that side.
See you at Sezibwa
