Journalists from the Karamoja sub-region have been urged to embrace positive and solution-oriented reporting to promote peace and amplify government programmes in the region.
The call was made during a media engagement held on Friday, March 27, at Moroto District headquarters.
Speaking at the meeting, Moroto Assistant Resident District Commissioner Mark Awol Musoka said the media plays a critical role in mobilising communities and fostering stability, especially at a time when the region has been facing insecurities over cattle rustling.

He explained that the engagement was aimed at strengthening collaboration between journalists and government to ensure accurate reporting and increased public awareness of development initiatives.
“We want the media to help communities appreciate the existing opportunities which the government has put in place in the region,” Musoka said.
He urged journalists to adopt balanced reporting that highlights both challenges and progress in Karamoja, noting that the sub-region is undergoing steady transformation.
“Karamoja is on the take-off,” he added.
During the engagement, journalists were also guided on how they can benefit from government programmes through participation in cooperatives.
Obed Katureebe, the deputy executive director of Uganda Media Centre (UMC), said the meeting focused on mindset change and building partnerships with the media to popularise government programmes in line with the NRM Manifesto and the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV).
“We are now valuing the media as our development partners in the next chapter,” Katureebe said.
