Kabira Sub-county National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson Jackson Nuwamanya has urged youth to utilise government wealth-creation programmes as communities recover from the recently concluded district and sub-county council elections.
Nuwamanya said programmes such as the Youth Livelihood Programme and the Parish Development Model (PDM) present opportunities for young people to access startup capital and improve household incomes.
He made the remarks while congratulating winners of the local government elections, noting that attention should now shift from political competition to economic development.
“The time for politics is over. Our focus should now be on improving livelihoods and transforming our communities through government programmes,” Nuwamanya said.

He acknowledged that the electoral period created divisions, misunderstandings and emotional strain among residents, particularly supporters of candidates who lost.
Nuwamanya, however, called for reconciliation, saying unity among residents is essential for effective implementation of government development initiatives.
He appealed to local leaders and residents to work together in mobilising communities to participate in income-generating activities supported under government programmes.
The local government elections, held earlier this week, saw voters elect leaders at sub-county and district council levels across the country.
