Kadaga Succumbs to MPs’ pressure allows them to return Shs 20m

Rt Hon Rabecca A Kadaga, the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda has succumbed to the much pressure exerted to her by a section of parliamentarians opposed to the Shs 20million which MPs apportioned to themselves.

During the Plenary session today Tuesday 28th, 2020, Kadaga allowed members of Parliament who want to return the monies to the consolidated fund to do so. She however noted that the returned money won’t be put under the consolidated fund but rather be sent to the MPs districts of representations.

Parliament: Order paper Tue 28/04/2020.

Hon Jacklet Atuhaire, Sheema district Woman Mp Hon Col Fred Mwesigye (NRM), Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde, MP Robert Kyagulanyi (Kyadondo East), Mp Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality),  MP Mathis Mpuuga(Masaka) have already returned the money to the consolidated fund.

Others who have returned the money are; MPs Francis Zaake, (Mityana Municipality), Jonathan Odur (Edit South), Muwanga Kivumbi (Butambala),

The monies in question caused tensions in the members of the public accusing their legislators, speaker for being too greed for money.

Its on record that High court also ordered for the stay of the release of the 10bn Shs the legislators allocated to themselves. These orders however were defied as Parliament went further to deposit the monies on MPs accounts.

William Byaruhanga, State attorney General, also warned Parliament against using the monies saying its usage would amount to contempt of the court orders. His statements caused him hatred between him and the speaker who called the AG an enemy to Parliament.
