The National Resistance Movement (NRM) on Saturday officially opened a new party office in Nyakatete Village, Kabira Sub-county, Ruhinda South County in Mitooma District, with party leaders calling for greater accountability and improved service delivery.

The office, spearheaded by Kabira Sub-county NRM LC3 Chairperson Jackson Nuwamanya, is expected to serve as a coordination hub for NRM activities and community development initiatives.
“This office will be a center for mobilizing NRM programmes and coordinating activities in Kabira. I also plan to introduce livelihood projects targeting youth, women, and persons with disabilities,” said Nuwamanya.

The launch event began with football matches between Rurehe North–Nyakatete and Buharambo–Nyabubare, with Buharambo–Nyabubare emerging victorious in both male and female categories. Each team received a cash prize of Shs100,000.
During the function, Nuwamanya was officially handed office by the outgoing chairperson, Polly Kakooko. Several local leaders praised the initiative, calling it a historic step for the sub-county.

“This is a memorable milestone. It is the first NRM office to be opened in the greater Kabira area,” said Mitooma Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Francis Kibuuka Amooti, who officiated as chief guest. He urged leaders to reject divisive politics and sectarianism, warning they are a threat to unity and development.

The ceremony took a political turn as former Mitooma District NRM Chairperson Wilberforce Byaboneka openly criticized Ruhinda South MP Dononzio Mugabe Kahonda and District Woman MP Juliet Agasha Bashiisha for what he termed as “non-performance” and failure to lobby for the constituency.
“If a leader has been in Parliament for 10 years and has failed to deliver, it is time for the electorate to make a change,” said Byaboneka, drawing cheers from the crowd. “Kahonda and Juliet Bashiisha have failed the people. Vote them out in the NRM primaries and in the 2026 elections.”
Byaboneka also called on President Yoweri Museveni to intensify civic education campaigns to ensure voters make informed choices based on service delivery and commitment to NRM principles.
The NRM party primaries are scheduled to take place on July 17.
