Katojo Sub Parish, Nyakibale parish Buyanja Sub county, Rukungiri district has been named the 2022 football giants. This came after Katojo church football team emerged the winner in the three major Christmas tournaments that included the Bob Rugonde cup that ended on 25th December,2022,  Buyanja mayor’s cup that ended on 26th December 2022 and the Nyakibale parish youth tournament on 6th January 2023.

During the award celemony for the Rugonde cup, the organizer Mr. Alex Bob Rugonde applauded all the teams and their coaches for uniting for the cause. He said games and sports help to bring the youth together and this helps them not to be idle and reduces crime rate.

Mr. Rugonde who is also eyeing the Rubabo parliamentary seat pledged to continue funding such activities for they keep people together hence united for development of Rubabo and Rukungiri at large.

Mr. Rugonde awarded the winners with a trophy and a bull and also announced the top scorers among other things. He announced Mr. Tayebwa Emma as the top scorer and Ainomugisha Earnest as the best goal keeper both from Katojo catholic church football team.

Mr. Nshoborokirwe Anthony the chairman Katojo catholic church who also doubles as the Buyanja town council speaker thanked the people for turning up in big numbers to support their teams. He noted that this gives them courage to continue supporting and funding sports in Buyanja

Nshoborokirwe thanked Mr. Tigandenga Mannex who is the mayor Buyanja town council for reviving sports in Buyanja. Mayor’s cup started in 2021 and Mr. Tigandenga sponsored all the sports uniforms and other equipment to all the wards in the town council that have enabled youth to actively participate.

Mr. Tigandenga awarded the best performers with golden boot to the top scorers, golden glove to best goal keeper and goats to the winning team.

Nshoborokirwe praised his team for being exemplary in all the tournaments and pledged to lobby for the team so that it keeps active in sports.

Mr. Nshoborokirwe praised Mr. Boniface Rwabinumi who is the head coach for his best tactics that won them three trophies, He said he is happy all this came as they prepare to become a parish noting that such achievements will help accelerate the process because they put them on the map.

In the same manner, Katojo catholic church choir also emerged the winners of the Nyakibale Parish Christmas carols. This music competition was organised by Nyakibale parish and all catholic centers including Rwenkuraijo catholic church, Kihumuro among others participated. This also won Katojo the fourth trophy in a row.
