TheKisoro grade one magistrate, Raphael Vueni has said that he is worried of the increase in the number of cases of family neglect by men registered on a daily basis.
Vueni revealed this to the district coordinating committee (DCC) yesterday while meeting with the Resident Judge for Kabale High Court circuit that was on an inspection visit to Kisoro court.
According to Vueni, there is an increased failure to provide essential needs for families which include: paying school fees and buying food by men, which has left many mothers seeking assistance from the court for judicial actions against their husbands. He said that the situation worries his work as fathers have always testified before court that they have nothing to give to their families giving him hard time to make decisions since sentencing a man does not provide families with basic needs.
He also called upon the judiciary and local governments to always make a budget for training local council courts on basic laws that can improve their performances in handling certain cases. Justice Samuel Emokor, the Resident Judge Kabale Circuit added his voice by saying that he once remanded men for failure to cater for their families but their wives shortly demanded for their release because they were missing them at home.
However, the Kisoro district probation officer, Kampire Moira says that this has resulted to a sharp rise in domestic violence cases that lead to murder cases.
