Kitara Football Club delivered a historic victory over KCCA, securing a 1-0 win in a thrilling Friday night showdown at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. This win brought them within touching distance of league leaders BUL.
The match, played under the vibrant lights and in front of a fully packed crowd, showcased the resilience and determination of Kitara as they edged past KCCA, one of the league’s formidable sides.
Denis Omedi emerged as the hero for Kitara, breaking the deadlock with a decisive goal in the 79th minute. The goal not only secured three crucial points for Kitara but also propelled them to the second spot on the league table with 36 points, just two points behind BUL.
Despite KCCA’s dominance throughout the game and their creation of several goal-scoring opportunities, they were unable to capitalize on their chances. Players like Muhammad Shaban and Ettiene Katenga had their moments but failed to find the back of the net. Even earlier in the match, Jude Ssemugabi came close to scoring for Kitara, only to see his attempt narrowly miss the target.
As the game seemed destined for a goalless draw, Omedi capitalized on a defensive mix-up in KCCA’s backline to seize the opportunity and score the winning goal. The ecstatic scenes among the travelling Kitara supporters mirrored the significance of this momentous victory for the club.
KCCA, despite their efforts, remained stuck in the 9th position with 23 points after 18 games. They will look to bounce back in their next fixture against NEC in the much-anticipated Lugogo derby.
The Royals will be in action again on 27th when they host Wakiso Giants in Masindi and the following day, KCCA will clash with NEC in the Lugogo derby.
With their recent triumph over KCCA, Kitara has undoubtedly emerged as a serious contender in the league, injecting excitement and unpredictability into the race for the title.
As the league progresses, all eyes will be on Kitara as they continue their pursuit of BUL at the summit, while KCCA seeks to regroup and reclaim their form in the battles to come.
