While hundred of thousands University students are closedown in Uganda due to the effects of the corona virus pandemic, Kyambogo University (KYU) has devised means of keeping her students equipped with in lecture theatre studies.
Prof Eli Katunguka, the Vice Chancellor KYU said that the university has installed new computer laboratories to facilitate in training of academic staff on the use of e- learning.
“Kyambogo University has intensified its efforts to set up large computer laboratories and to train academic staff in the use of e-learningtools,” he said.
Katunguka added that the new computer labs will enable the university to continue teaching online amidst the corona virus pandemic.
Immaculate, an Engineering student at KYU who has been attending some online classes told Parrotsug that e learning is more challenging especially on the costs involved in buying data bundles to access internet. She further said that students without gadgets such as laptops, good smartphones are likely missing the classes.
Setting up of large computer labs at KYU comes after a proposal by the University Senate meeting held on June 7 which resolved to install computer labs to train lecturers on e learning tools as a mechanism to facilitate students’ online teaching.
