As the National Unity Platform (NUP) enters the third day of its Expression of Interest exercise, over 40,000 party members have picked nomination forms for various elective positions ahead of the 2026 general elections. Party officials have, however, cautioned aspirants against running as independents if they fail to secure the party ticket.
Among the aspirants is Garvin Kasirye Gwanga, son of the late Maj. Gen. Kasirye Gwanga. He is eyeing the Busujju County parliamentary seat, currently occupied by fellow NUP member David Kalwanga.
Garvin Kasirye stated that his bid is driven by a desire to combat corruption, improve the road network, and enhance the agricultural sector, which he described as the backbone of Uganda’s economy.
In a similar move, Emmanuel Magoola Matovu has picked nomination forms to contest for the Busiro East parliamentary seat, currently held by NUP’s Medard Ssegona Akalyamaggwa.
Magoola cited dissatisfaction with the incumbent’s performance, accusing him of failing to lobby for key social services such as schools, hospitals, and roads for the people of Busiro East.
The NUP’s Expression of Interest process runs from June 1st to June 23rd, 2025.
