The High Court in Kampala has granted a 20 million shillings cash bail to jailed Dr. Kizza Besigye’s lawyer, Eron Kiiza.
Early year, the military court at Makindye convicted counsel Eron Kiiza to Kitalya prison for 9 months for contempt of court while representing Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya before the General Court Martial. This was after Kiiza challenged the legality of the military court arguing that the court tribunal lacked jurisdiction to try civilians.
However, High Court Judge, Justice Micheal Elubu granted Kiiza bail pending appeal against his conviction, whereas his sureties were asked to pay Shs50 million non-cash.
