Police in Pader district have arrested the LC3 chairman of Laguti subcounty on allegations of murder of 80-year-old woman in the area.
It is alleged that Christopher Mwaka, ordered the killing and burning of the victim’s body accusing her of practicing witchcraft.
The victim has been identified as Mary Akongo a resident of Acamoling village, Paibwor parish in Laguti subcounty in Pader district.
Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson said the suspects connived with the LC2 chairman for Paibwo, Francis Okenyi and the LC1 chairman Robert Odong to call for a meeting with the village where Akongo was arrested and arraigned in kangaroo court.
“She was accused before the community and was forced to apologize to the community which she did. The chairman later instructed the community to beat her. They torched her body and her home was also set on fire,” said Enanga.
Several other persons including LC2 and one chairmen and the Latigu Gombolola Internal Security Officer(GISO) were arrested together with other people who participated in the murder of the 80 year old woman.
“We condemn such acts of impunity and lawlessness that we cannot allow to continue. Efforts are in place to trace the other suspects who are on the run” he stated.
