Six days after a tense and disputed vote counting process in Isingiro District, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, officially declared Lilian Ruteraho as the party’s flag bearer for the Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat.
The declaration came after a temporary suspension of vote tallying, prompted by a scuffle at the Isingiro district tally center. Final results confirmed Ruteraho’s sweeping victory, garnering 67,454 votes, followed by Justin Ayebazibwe with 41,441 votes. Other contenders included Tindigwa Ninsiima Janipher (16,207), Mugumya Claire (13,351), Kigongo Sulaina (4,307), and Nimusiima Mayleen (3,479).
On 23rd July at 1:30 PM, traffic in Mbarara City came to a standstill as jubilant supporters lined the streets to welcome Ruteraho in a vibrant convoy that wound its way to Isingiro. The celebration was marked by chants, songs of victory, and a spirit of triumph echoing through the region.
Speaking from her home in Masha, Isingiro, Ruteraho,formerly Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kagadi expressed deep gratitude to her supporters. Known for her candidness and humorous remarks, she lauded the voters for their commitment to protecting the integrity of the election, saying, “The mafias tried to deny you your victory, but you stood firm.”
She pledged to uphold the promises she made during her campaign and to work tirelessly to serve the people of Isingiro.
As the dust settles from a dramatic electoral chapter, Lilian Ruteraho’s supporters are hopeful that her open-minded leadership and fearless approach will bring impactful change to the district.
