Lira District and City have launched a Shillings 70 million project aimed to promoting the rights of women and girls with Disabilities in the area.
The project that will run for a period of One year is funded by Lira District and City with support from Disability Rights Advocacy Fund.
“Persons with disabilities deserve their full rights to accessing decent services such as education, healthcare, and consideration in the society without any kind of segregation,” Christine Anono.
According to Ogwang George Morris, the project coordinator, Lira District Women Disability Association, the project will run from January to December 2022 and will be implemented in two phases.
The chairperson of Lira District Women Disability Association, Apio Beatrice Zola has hailed leadership of Lira District for rolling out this project to protect the rights women and girls with disability.
Mathew Omara, the chairperson of persons with disability for Lira city and district said they are fighting for the rights of women and girls with disability who have for long faced different forms of abuses.
Christine Anono, the Community Development Officer, Lira District was chief guest at the function. She asked leaders to join hands in the fight for the rights and persons with disability particularly the children who are always denied their rights and face discrimination in homes.
