Police Kampala are holding in custody Kasirye Faizo, 26, a resident of Kazinga – Nsumbi village, for attempting to commit suicide by burning, after he was rejected by a married woman.
Kasirye, a bricklayer in the area has been stalking the victim identified as Namakula Nally Deborah for several years in vain. It is further reported that the suspect is aware of the victim’s marital relationship with Ssenabulya Michael with whom they have three children.
Preliminary report indicates that on July 23 at around 11pm, Kasirye was once again rejected by the victim at Kamu Kamu bar, a meeting point to the duo. The woman who was in the company of her two friends jumped on a Boda Boda leaving Kasirye in a heightened emotional state.
The following day, on July 24, Kasirye attempted to commit suicide by burning but was rescued by the residents who found when he had poured paraffin and set himself on fire. It is alleged that he wanted to kill himself because of the rejection.
“The whole body got burnt and the body skin fully peeled off. The male victim was rescued by Kyebando police and rushed to Mulago hospital,” police reported.
Police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga says that Kasirye is under arrest and will be arraigned in court as soon as he is discharged from hospital.
He condemned acts of commiting or attempting to commit suicide over rejection or breakups in relationships.
“The emotions can be tough to take when you are feeling lonely. Its better to recognise that one’s life is precious and more worth than any relationship. You can therefore, help yourself by taking control of your emotions and finding ways to heal.” SCP Fred Enanga said
