Residents in Katerera Bunyaruguru, Rubirizi district are still engulfed in shock after a 21-year-old committed suicide by hanging after relatives blocked his attempts to sell part of the family estate.
SP Marcial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesparson indentified the deceased as Deus Kiiza, 21, a peasant and resident of Nyakatunga ll cell, Mugyera Parish, Katanda Sub-county, Bunyaruguru in Rubirizi District.
Kiiza reportedly asked the family a share of the family land for sell but the family objected to his plans prompting him to take away his life.
Further reports allege that on December 5, the deceased left home at around 9:00Am for Katerera Town and went back home where he stayed with his sisters.
He then moved away and the sisters thought that he had gone to his house only find him hanging dead on a rope in their mother’s sitting room.
Julius Katarihwa, 48 , Chairman Lc1 Nyakatunga cell said, the deceased has been threatening to kill his mother and other family members, then after kill himself because they stopped him from selling family land.
Tumusiime said the deceased has been taking drugs and alcohol thus destabilizing his family members. He noted that the body had no any physical injuries and attributed the cause of death to suicide by hanging.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Rugazi Health Center IV for Postmortem as inquiries are on going.
