A 35-year-old man has been stabbed to death following disagreements over Shs2,000 during a card game at a bar in Bweyogerere, Kira Municipality, Wakiso district.
The deceased, identified as Hamza Nuwamanya, a resident of Kireku Zone, was attacked after a dispute that started while he was playing cards with other people at Twine’s Bar at about 1:00am on August 17.
According to police, trouble started when Nuwamanya allegedly picked Shs2,000 belonging to Katabani Julius, sparking a quarrel between the two.
The bar owner reportedly intervened, refunded Katabani the money and ordered Nuwamanya to leave the premises.
Police said Katabani allegedly followed Nuwamanya outside the bar, where the confrontation continued. During the altercation, Katabani allegedly stabbed Nuwamanya with a knife.
He was rushed to Kireku Health Centre before being referred to Mulago Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, he died at the hospital moments later.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala confirmed the incident, saying statements had been recorded from witnesses as investigations continued.
Nuwamanya’s body was taken to Kampala City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The key suspect, Katabani, is still on the run, while police have arrested three other suspects to assist with investigations.
Police have appealed for information that could help in tracing and arresting the suspect.
