The Inspector General of Government, IGG Betty Olive Namisango Kamya Tirwomwe has revealed that a significant number of public officers do not have credible academic qualifications for holding public offices.
IGG Kamya made a revelation during a meeting with senior public accounting officers from various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (NDAs) on Monday.
Despite the recent audit of government payrolls by the Auditor General, IG investigation indicates that many public officers particularly at the local government level possess fake academic documents which makes them ineligible to occupy these offices.
Kamya said the President has been briefed about the investigation, noting that cabinet will soon respond to the problem which she says has significantly contributed to substandard work across different government departments.
“We have been receiving so many complaints about the recruitment of human resource in government especially in district service commissions. The complaints are that people who are recruited do not have the qualifications,” Kamya said.
