Ugandans have been in small talks about the appointment of Hon. Nobert Mao, the president of the Democractic Party(DP) as the minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs an event that followed the “marrying” of DP and NRM in a political corporation agreement signed between President Museveni and Chairman Mao earlier this week.
Mao has been approval by the vetting Committee of Parliament in a vetting exercise that took place at the Parliament chaired by speaker Anite Among today.
Mao’s appointment has not been welcomed by sections of opposition politicians including his members of his mother party- DP who accuse him of being a molesting NRM and Museveni. DP leaders have disowned Mao’s decision and demanded for his resignation.
However, the minister of ICT and national guidance Chris Baryomunsi has blasted at those saying that NRM has swallowed DP stating that Mao remains DP President while he serves in the new role.
Baryomunsi was addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center on Friday where he said that the signed coorporation is a positive decision which Ugandans should not to worry about.
“Mao’s appointment as minister doesn’t necessarily make him an NRM member because even his appointment instrument clearly states that he will serve as minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs but describes him as President General of the Democractic Party.” Baryomunsi said
” Hon. Mao has not crossed to NRM, he still keeps his DP card,” he added.
Baryomunsi urged DP members to resolve the matter internally or use legal means as they earlier intimidated. He advises that DP members should tone down their anxiety because the appointment benefits the party whose president is working closely with government.
It is also being speculated that there are five more positions in government awaiting more five DP members.
Several Ugandans have reacted to Mao’s appointment on social media.
“Nobert Mao didn’t even attain 1% in the previous election and you’re comparing him to odinga. As an individual its good for him but statistically he is inconsequential to m7. There is no mature politics, Mao is just formalising his gig.” One twitter user tweeted.
“Nobert Mao, a suave political actor, has finally realized that relevance is all that counts in Ugandan politics. ” said another user.
“You want to serve the nation and you have tried on several attempts to get to a position of serving this nation but failing …..and now with all your brilliancy you get to that position . Why not serve the people? Nobert mao just serve the nation ba hater baffe.” Elvis also tweeted
Amidst all the controversies on this issue, Nobert Mao seem firm on his decisions and ready to serve in his new position as Minister.
