Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will showcase their services to the public at the African Public Service Day on June 27, the Permanent Secretary to the ministry of public service, Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwire said.
African Public Service day is celebrated in recognition of the contribution of public service to socio-economic development in a given country.
“The objective of commemorating this day is to reflect on the functions of public service, recognize and make known its importance, contributions and benefits to public officers, civil society, private sector and the government in general as well as rewarding excellence and innovative practices in the public service and to provide avenues for public officers to exchange experience, innovations, ideas and good practice in governance and public administration as a guide to reflect on the performance of public service in Africa,” PS Bitarakwate explained.
During the celebration Bitarakwate disclosed, NDAs will provide on-set services to the public at a zero fee.
“This will be an opportunity to free services and also to get explanations on what happens behind the scenes. It will be an interacting moment between the public and public service,” she said.
The government will also use the 13th APS day to recognize the vital role public servants play in promoting democracy and good governance. The day will be commemorated under the theme “Empowering a Citizen-Centric Public Service for an Inclusive and Thriving 21st Century Africa: A Journey of Lifelong Learning and Transformation.”
Prior to that day, there will be a week-long activities to be carried out to mark the day including a sports gala (Football, Netball, Volleyball, Athletics, Chess and other fun games) at Makerere University Sports grounds.
The exhibition according to the ministry will take place at Kololo independence grounds where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the Chief Guest.
