The Court of Appeal has on Tuesday maintained that Security Minister Jim Katugugu Muhwezi is the rightful person elected to represent the people of Rujumbura County in Rukungiri District.
This followed a petition filed by former county MP Fred Turyamuhweza (FDC), challenging Muhwezi’s victory on grounds of voter bribery.
However, during the judgement, a Penal of 3 Justices; Cheborion Barishaki , Stephen Musota and Christopher Gashirabake, dismissed the appeal, and unanimously agreed with the High Court in Kabale that they have not found evidence to support Turyamuhweza’s allegations of Bribery against the Minister.
The Justices then ordered that each party should bear its own costs in both the High court and Court of Appeal.
NRM’s Jim Muhwezi obtained 23,990 votes against FDC’s Turyamuhweza’s 20,556 votes in the January 14th 2021 General Elections.
