Uganda’s push toward a digitally-driven economy is set to gain fresh momentum next month as the country prepares to host its second National ICT Summit in Kampala, with a strong call from the government for increased collaboration across sectors to drive inclusive digital transformation.

Speaking to journalists at Uganda Media Centre on Thursday, Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga, Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Uganda into a competitive digital economy through the implementation of the Digital Transformation Roadmap.

“The government is committed to making Uganda a strong digital economy,” said Minister Kabbyanga. “This roadmap will guide our progress in five key areas: digital infrastructure, e-government services, digital skills, innovation, and cybersecurity.”

The summit, will take place on 17-18 July, 2025 at the National ICT Innovation Hub under the theme: “Harnessing Digital Innovation for Sustainable Economic Growth”. It is expected to bring together policymakers, private sector leaders, development partners, and tech innovators to showcase technological solutions and forging partnerships aimed at addressing development challenges in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education.

Kabbyanga has called on ministries, departments, agencies, and private firms to coordinate efforts and extend digital services beyond urban centres.

“We must work together to ensure that digital services reach every Ugandan, from city centres to remote villages,” he urged.

The event will feature live demonstrations, business-to-business engagement clinics, and innovation showcases, highlighting local startups and emerging technologies geared toward improving public service delivery and enhancing economic productivity.

While acknowledging the role of development partners, minister Kabbyanga urged them to remain engaged as Uganda accelerates its digital agenda.

“This journey cannot be walked alone. We need all hands on deck to lead this country into a strong, tech-powered future,” he concluded.

The National ICT Summit is part of a broader government strategy to integrate technology across governance and industry, supporting Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan III.
