The 2017 Age limit Bill mover Minister Raphael Magezi withdrawn from the IGARA West constituency MP race to concentrate on his ministerial duties.
“Hon Raphael Magezi will not again contest for MP Igara West which he has served for 2 terms in the Parliament of uganda,” anonymous source said.
Magezi has been the legislator representing the people of Igara west since the 9th Parliament.
His name came into limelights in 2017 when he moved a private member’s Bill to amend Article 102b seeking to lift the presidential lower and upper age limit caps.
The motion encountered stiff rejections by opposition politicians, sections of the members of the ruling NRM government, human rights activists, and some Civil Society Organizations in what came to be known as ‘Tojikwatako’ however, their oppositions were finally defeated as the biggest percentage of the lawmakers voted ‘i’ for the motion.
President Museveni later rewarded him with a fatty ministerial appointment as Minister for Local Governments in the last cabinet reshuffles.
The aftermath of the motion came with too much hatred against minister Magezi both from his constituency and nationwide.
Kasambya county MP (Mubende district) Hon Gaffa Mbwatekamwa is has recently expressed interests on the Igara West MP seat.
About 12 people including former area MP Prof Tarsis Kabwegyere, are also eyeing the same seat.
Analysts have argued that minister Magezi is trying to dodge the pressure mounted on him by MP Mbwatekamwa.
Means to get comments from the minister were futile by press time but his political assistant told reports that the minister is expected to address his constituents on the way forward this weekend.
