Mobile Money thieves travelling on a motorcycle on Monday shot and killed a police officer in Kassanda while he attempt to countattack them.
The incident occured on Monday evening at around 5pm when three men travelling on a Boda Boda Bajaj boxer registration number UDX 755C broke into a mobile money shop which also doubles as a Soda depot in Kyakitanga village, Manyogaseka subcounty, Kassanda district. Several items and unestimated amount of money were stolen by the thieves.
Rachel Kawala, the Wamala region police spokesperson disclosed that one police officer identified as Corporal Joseph Olaya was shot and injured during the pursuit to apprehend the assailants.
Olaya succumbed to injuries while being transported to Mubende regional referral hospital.
Police recovered a motorcycle that was being used by the assailants and the firearm belonging to CPL Playa however, Kawala said in a statement that the thieves took on heels with the magazine.
“Our teams, including Crime Intelligence and CID specialists, under the leadership of the District Police Commander of Kassanda, have visited the crime scene. We have recorded relevant statements to aid the investigations,” Kawala said.
She assured the public of commitment by security operatives to identify and apprehend the culprits involved in this heinous incident.
