The Ministry of Health has today concluded conducting Technical Support Supervision for Teso Sub-region to monitor health services delivery.
The Ministry of Health routinely carries out oversight supervision and monitoring to evaluate the quality of health delivery in Local governments which contributes to performance enhancement and mentorship.
The Ministry of Health Top management was led by the Minister of Health Dr.Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero and was accompanied by the State Minister for Health General Duties, Hon Anifa B. Kawooya, Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine, Director General Health Services, Dr Henry G. Mwebesa and a number of heads of departments at the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry officials were asessing the delivery of health services with key focus on existing health infrastructure, maternity services, neonatal and pediatric services, human resources, Emergency Medical Services among others.
In each district, the Ministry of Health Top Management interacted with the Members of Parliament, the Local Government political and technical leadership (RDCs, LC IV Chairpersons, CAOs ,DHOs and councilors.
The team visited health facilities in Soroti and Kumi Districts, starting with the Soroti Regional Referral Hospital where a new CT scan machine delivered by the Ministry of Health is undergoing installation. A new Oxygen plant is also undergoing installation to address the hospital’s oxygen requirements and Blood bank construction is nearing completion.
The other Health facilities visited and assessed include: Asuret Health Centre IV, Atirir Health Centre IV, Aturtur General Hospital, Kumi Health Centre IV and Ngora Health Centre IV.
On Tuesday, 11th April, 2023, the Ministry of Health conducted support supervision in
Nakaseke District where a number of health facilities were visited and assessed. These include: Nakaseke General Hospital, Ngoma Health Centre IV, Kinoni Health Centre III, Kinyogoga Health III and Semuto Health Centre IV. The Minister of Health also visited the newly upgraded Luwero General Hospital.
Tomorrow Thursday, 13th April, the Ministry Top Management is expected in Bukedi and Serere Districts and later on 18th April in Katakwi District. These visits will be graced by the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among and the Vice President of Uganda, H E Jessica Alupo respectively.
“There are health centers IIIs and IVs that still lack infrastructure and they need to be upgraded and renovated. The facilities in the sub counties need to be functional. There has been very little upgrade of facilities.
“After this supervision, the ministry will compile a report and share with the districts” Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said.
