Members of Parliament sitting on the Public Accounts Committee have warned that poor Information Technology governance at Mulago Specialized Women and Neonatal Hospital could affect results patients receive from their diagnosis.
This was after the legislators established that the hospital is using old IT machines likely to affect test results of patients after diagnosis.
The Busiro East MP, Medard Ssegona also the PAC chairperson disclosed that the hospital is equipped with 71 Information Technology equipment that have exceeded their lifeline. He faulted the hospital management for failure to dispose of these assets which he says cause life risks to Ugandans.
“The committee observed that delayed disposal of Information Technology assets is a risk to authenticity of diagnosis & leads to further diminution in value & loss to government,” said Ssegona.
Parliament also revealed that the US$25 Million Mulago Specialized Women & Neonatal Hospital is operating with only one Information Technology staff, despite the staff structure requiring 6 staffs.
“The entities (health sector) had an approved IT staff structure in place but not implemented, for instance in Mulago Specialized Hospital, the entity has 1 out of the IT staff establishment of six,” PAC chairperson, Ssegona said.
Similar findings were made in Kiruddu and China- Uganda Naguru Hospital, according to the committee.
