The president of the Republic of Uganda also the Commander In Chief, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has promoted his biological son Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Keinerugaba to the rank of General, which is the top most rank in the Army hours after he threatened to invade neighbouring independent state.
Muhoozi has been serving as the Commander of the land forces but Museveni has dropped him in the new appointments.
According to the UPDF spokesperson Brig. Gen. Felix Kulaigye, the president also promoted Maj General Kayanja Muhanga who headed the Operation Shujaa in Dr Congo to the rank of Lt. Gen and immediately made him the new Commander of Land Forces (CLF) replacing Muhoozi.
“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and UPDF would like to congratulate the Generals upon their well served appointments and promotions” Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs said
The promotion comes at a moment when the president’s son who is also being speculated to takeover the country’s highest political seat is threatening to invade the neighbouring state of Kenya.
“It would take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Kenya,” Muhoozi posted on his official Twitter account.
The tweet has attracted debates in the public domain with many questioning the first son’s misconduct on the biliteral relations between Uganda and Kenya and the East African Community region.
Earlier this day, the ministry of foreign affairs in Uganda dismissed Muhoozi’s statements stating that Uganda does not conduct it’s foreign policies and other businesses through social media.
However, the highest raising of Muhoozi to army ranks leaves many citizens including veteran and serving army officers to wonder if he is being prepared for inheritance. To the political and career diplomats, the new promotion is sensitive to the regional bloc, EAC following the general’s recent tweets on attacking Kenya as well as his support for Russia in the ongoing Russian Ukrainian war.
