KAMPALA
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon Uganda’s public servants to uphold integrity and support the country’s journey toward socio-economic transformation, during his keynote address at the 14th Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Public Service, was marked by a vibrant display of unity, including sports competitions and exhibitions aimed at showcasing innovation and service delivery within Uganda’s public sector.
In his address, the President congratulated all public servants and highlighted the critical role they play in national development. He reminded them of the government’s long-term vision since 1986: to transition Uganda from a poor, peasant-based society to a modern, industrialized, and prosperous nation.
“Peace, security and stability are fundamental ingredients of development,” President Museveni noted, crediting the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for restoring national security by eliminating threats such as the ADF and LRA.
He emphasized infrastructure development as a foundation for economic transformation. “Government has prioritized infrastructure in transport and energy to lower the cost of doing business,” the President said, pointing out that roads, electricity, and affordable credit are now enabling growth in agriculture, industry, services, and ICT.
Museveni also highlighted government wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and Youth and Women funds. These programs, he said, are aimed at eliminating subsistence living and empowering Ugandans to become economically self-reliant.
Importantly, he urged civil servants to align themselves with the pro-people policies of the NRM government—ensuring free education, safeguarding medical supplies, and delivering government programs without corruption.
“Corruption slows down Uganda’s development. It will not be tolerated by the patriots who fought for Uganda’s liberation,” he warned,
