President Museveni has challenged Kigezi High School in Kabale district to increase emphasis on teaching of practical science subjects to meet the country’s needs.
He made the remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Vice President, Maj. Gen. Jessica Alupo at the Kigezi High School Century Celebrations on Saturday September 30.
Reading from the president’s speech, VP Alupo teaching of science subjects is key in setting pace for national development.
She said, “…introduce career guidance sessions to help students find relevant and practical subjects to prepare them for the job market.”
The president noted that there was still shortage of skilled labor in the country which increases demand for science related skills. He also recognized the school’s increased enrolment and completion rates over the years.
As part of the celebrations, the president donated Shs100M towards the completion of Centenary Multipurpose Hall.
Alupo said government is committed to support infrastructure development that facilitates learning in all schools.
“I want to assure you that Government will continue Partnering with you to ensure that all the desired infrastructure for learning at Kigezi High School and Kigezi Lower will be facilitated,” she said.
David Bahati, the state minister for trade, industry, and cooperatives, who is an alumnus of the school, praised Kigezi High for instilling discipline, determination, and faith in its students.

The former woman MP of Kabale district, Hon. Ronah Ritah Ninsiima and chairman of the school’s Alumnae group (Old Girl’s Association), also acknowledged the contributions of former students in making the centenary event a success.
Sharing a sermon at the celebrations, the North Kigezi Diocese Bishop, His Grace Onesmus Asiimwe urged the congregation to put into use all opportunities they encounter in life. Bishop Asiimwe was representing the Church of Uganda Archbishop, Dr. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu as the main celebrant at the 100yrs celebrations service.
Among the notable guests were government officials, religious leaders, politicians and the Kigezi High School alumni community including former Ugandan Prime Minister, Dr. Ndugu Ruhakana Rugunda and Prof. Muhammad Mpezamihigo – Vice Chancellor for Kampala International University.
