The Head of media and communications at Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Muzeyi Faizo has said the city’s recurring floods are a wake-up call to officials, particularly the Kampala Capital City Authority to ensure that all developments in the city areas adhere to physical planning standards.
He was addressing the media on the recent heavy downpours in Kampala that left sections of roads cut off by floods and businesses paralyzed.

According to Muzeyi, KCCA has failed to create new water channels making fast flowing with high erosive powers to flood and cause damages to properties. He says the authority should quickly study the water flow in the city and avoid delays which may cause a lot of problems.
The UPC head of media and communications further warned of the likelihood of disease outbreaks due to heavy rains that wash away most of the pit latrines in the city.
“Some city tenants take advantage of the rains to throw in all sorts of refuse which cause blockage. These situations are a recipe for both cholera, malaria and typhoid which spread like bush-fire,” said Muzeyi.
He called upon city authorities at KCCA and other cities across the country to stop ignoring nature while promoting urbanization and infrastructure related development.
“UPC is signaling early warning bells not only for Kampala City, but to the rest of the country which calls for urgent attention of City planning that should implemented.” Muzeyi added
