There is no hope that the eagerly awaited for Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja’s money will be disbursed to the targeted beneficiaries.
This is after the state minister for Gender, Rt. Col Charles P Okello Engola, revealed that the disbursement of COVID-19 relief cash to the vulnerable persons will not begin tomorrow on Thursday July 8 as earlier promised.
Minister Engola was appearing before the Parliamentary Task Force on Covid-19 when he disclosed that the disbursement of the relief cash will only begin after LIST has been displayed for beneficiaries to double-check and not Thursday as earlier communicated.
He added that the ministry needs at least a period of one week to verify the lists of all vulnerable persons to receive relief cash.
Immediately when she assumed office as the country’s new Prime Minister, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja Musafiri pledged to lobby UShs 100,000 relief cash to support Ugandans affected by the 42 days lockdown which was declared on June 18 by President Museveni as part of COVID-19 containment measures.
The money is according to the Prime minister expected to be deposited on the mobile money contacts provided by the vulnerable Ugandans on registration.
The disbursement exercise was supposed to begin on Tuesday July 6 but was postponed after the ministry of gender said it had not completed entering and verifying of the data provided by the registrars.
In a cabinet meeting that sat on Monday, it was resolved that the disbursement be pushed to Thursday and a number of government agencies including Internal Security Organisation (ISO) National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) were among others included in the data verification exercise as a mean of ensuring transparency.
However, the resolution hangs in balance after the responsible ministry revealed that it still needs a week to complete the verification of lists and no specific dates have been set to disburse the promised cash relief.
