As tourism stakeholders in Kasese look at event based destination marketing, a tourism event dubbed, ‘Whispers Of The Rwenzoris’ is in high gear as the event organizers Akiiki Holidays turn one year in the travel space.
Whispers Of The Rwenzoris is a two days and one night event that will be happening at Ruboni Community Visitors Center, at the foothills of the mountains of the moon in Kasese from June 3rd – 4th, 2023.
Gonzaga Stephen the founder Akiiki Holidays says the event will be celebrating the beauty of the Rwenzori ranges and the cultural heritage of the people in the region, with a mix of entertainment(Music).
“The Rwenzori mountains are a home to 21 Mammal species and 217 bird species of which some are endemic to the Albertine Rift and looking at the cultural attachment of the mountains to the community, then the rare endemic species you will agree that the Rwenzoris are naturally endowed,” he explained.
The Whispers Of The Rwenzoris travel package goes for UGX 150,000 for Kampala travellers (Including transport from Kampala & back) and UGX 50,000 for the Kasese based travellers plus those around the region.
Kameli Zepha Bwambale the Chief Executive Officer Kasese Youth in Tourism Association (KAYITA) says the event is one of the local tourism initiatives being fronted as an alternative to bridge the social and economic gap of rural communities.
“Whispers of the Rwenzoris stands out in mobilizing the mass population and creating a tourism conscious community that will be a baseline and a fertile ground for the Rwenzori Festival happening in September 2023,” Kameli revealed.
Whispers of the Rwenzoris sets out to showcase the uniqueness of the Rwenzoris through premium travel and event experiences.
