Married couples in Nombe Archdeaconry have been urged to prioritize love and trust in order to reduce cases of domestic violence. This appeal was made by Asaph Arinaitwe, the president of Kamukuzi Church of Uganda’s father’s union, during St. Peter’s Day celebrations at Nombe Archdeaconry.
Arinaitwe highlighted that domestic violence was not only causing untold suffering but also leading to non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and stress, which can be fatal. He urged couples to prioritize love and trust as a way of fostering peace in their homes and reducing domestic violence.
Rev. Can Denis Amwiine Kizinduka, who led the service, also emphasized the importance of putting God first in marriages. He echoed Arinaitwe’s sentiments, saying that love and trust are essential ingredients for a harmonious union.
During the celebrations, nine men were inducted into the Nombe Archdeaconry father’s union, committing themselves to serve the Lord. The event offered an opportunity for the community to reflect on the importance of love and trust in marriages and the role of fathers in nurturing healthy families.
The call to prioritize love and trust comes at a time when domestic violence cases are on the rise in many parts of the world. In Uganda, for instance, a recent report by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics revealed that domestic violence cases had increased by 4% in 2020 compared to the previous year.
As such, the message from Nombe Archdeaconry’s leaders is a timely reminder of the importance of healthy relationships, not only in reducing domestic violence but also in promoting physical and mental well-being.
