The National Peasants’ Party (NPP) has summoned its president, Hajat Stecia Mayanja Faridah, to appear before the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) over alleged misconduct.

The summons follow Mayanja’s performance at President Yoweri Museveni’s post-nomination rally in Kololo on Tuesday.

NPP Secretary General Sentongo Sharif Nambale said Mayanja’s participation in the event was inconsistent with the party’s constitution and called on her to respond to the accusations.

“This follows allegations of her participation in NRM political rallies, which is inconsistent with the National Peasants’ Party Constitution. She is required to respond to these allegations and will be given a fair hearing,” Nambale said, warning of disciplinary action should she fail to appear.

The hearing is scheduled for 4p.m. today, (September 25) at the party headquarters in Kasubi, Rubaga Division.

The performance was not welcomed by a section of opposition figures, with Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko accusing Mayanja of betraying the opposition cause.

“These are the kinds of people who make the opposition look bogus. How can someone who claims to be the president of an opposition political party perform at an event hosted by the very regime we are fighting to replace?” Nsereko charged.

He added: “Your own candidate is being nominated, and instead of standing in solidarity, you’re entertaining the incumbent regime. It’s a joke, a mockery of our struggle. You’re making us look unserious.”

Nsereko further questioned the involvement of musicians in political events, saying it undermines both politics and cultural values. “Why are musicians being used like this? It’s not just about politics anymore, it’s about making a mockery of the Islamic religion and the values we stand for,” he said.

The summons and public backlash pile pressure on Mayanja, and raises questions on loyalty and credibility of her party’s leadership.

By Press time, Mayanja was yet to respond to the accusations.
