Faridah Nambi, representing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the Kawempe North by-election, has decided to withdraw her petition for a vote recount.
Initially, Nambi through her lawyers had approached the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court to request a recount after Nalukoola Luyimbazi from the National Unity Platform (NUP) was declared the winner of the election.
In a letter dated March 25, addressed to the Kawempe Chief Magistrate, Nambi’s legal representatives, Atwijukire Dennis Advocates, stated that the petition was no longer relevant due to recent developments.
Her legal team clarified that the Electoral Commission had already published the official results of the Kawempe North by-election, confirming Nalukoola Luyimbazi as the winner. Consequently, pursuing the petition was deemed unnecessary.
The letter stated, “We have received instructions from the applicant to withdraw the application. The Electoral Commission has already gazetted Mr. Elias Nalukoola, rendering the application irrelevant.”
On March 24, the Electoral Commission formally announced the results of the Kawempe North by-election,in the national gazette to solidify Nalukoola Luyimbazi’s victory.
This withdrawal marks a shift in stance for Ms. Nambi and her party, following ten days of efforts to challenge the election outcome in court.
