Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has renewed her calls to caution the government, army and the police against employing vote rigging schemes in Thursday’s by-election for Oyam North.

“On a serious note, UPC reiterates the caution by the Party President Hon. Jimmy Akena during the campaigns that no individual should dare to employ vote rigging schemes, during voting and vote counting,” UPC spokesperson, Sharon Arach retaliated at a press briefing on Wednesday July 5.

She said that the party eyes are widely open and that they have deployed everywhere task forces to protect their votes at any cost.

“The Party has identified and trained our agents and observers, on all possible tactic that could be employed to rig votes and also how to protect our votes, we are confident they will do a great job,” she added

Arach urged electorates in Oyam North to be vigilant, protect their votes during polling and counting exercise. She demanded the Electoral Commission to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.

Oyam North County Parliamentary by-election is slated for tomorrow Thursday 6th July, 2023 and four candidates including Dr Apio Eunice (UPC), Daniel Okello (NUP), Samuel Okello Engola Jr (NRM) and Dr. Okello Freddy Newton (FDC) are contesting for this seat. The race is however, tightly between Dr. Apio Eunice (UPC) and the NRM

First forward, UPC has also called for security of the mobile money operators and other Ugandans who are being terrorized by armed thugs across the country. Last week, assailants attacked a mobile money shop in Luzira and robbed Shs72M, killed one person and injured another.

UPC has called on security to expedite investigations into mobile money raids and implored mobile money agents to be vigilant and alert.
