Preparations for Saturday’s launch begun two months ago though the idea of the Alumni league has been on table for close to more than a year. According to Ronald Karuhanga the chairman organising committee of the Nyakasura School Alumni league, tommorow’s event will mark the beginning of the materialisation of the idea that has been on the lips of every Nyakasura school old student for long.
” I believe no one can stop an idea whose time has come, this is the time for our league to live. The time is ripe and come Saturday we shall get everything rolling,” Karuhanga told Parrotsug.
“We have lined up a number of activities but the main one will be the soccer gala which will feature 10 teams and the winners will be awarded accordingly. The main reason behind the gala is to give our members a feel of the forthcoming league but also as we all know, soccer is capable of bringing people together,we hope this will also create more room for bonding,” he explained.
Founded by Commader Earnest Calwel, a Scottish national in 1926, Nyakasura school is one of the most prestigious traditional schools in Uganda boosting of producing a number of high profile citizens and leaders who have contributed enormously towards the development of Uganda in many aspects.
Former chairman of Uganda legislative council, Prof. Edward Rugamayo is one of the many distinguished citizens and former student at Nyakasura school that have confirmed their attendance for tommorrow’s event. And according to Ronald Karuhanga, Professor Rugamayo will be the guest of honour.

Rugamayo FC which comprises of students who studied at Nyakasura school between 2013-2018 is also nicknamed, “The Professors.”
Despite her undisputable reputation, Nyakasura school’s former students have had very few avenues that keep them in touch. The only avenue in place has been the Nyakasura school Alumni Association headed by Patrick Bitature but according to some old Students of the school, this hasn’t been able to bring every one on board.

Coping from schools like Ntare, St Mary’s Kisubi, Jovoc, Mbarara high school among others, the remnants of the Commander thought a football league would do wonders in bringing them together and ensuring inclusiveness given the popularity of soccer and it’s ability to bring people together.
“At the end of it all, we hope this will serve as an avenue for bonding, social networking and it will really help us come up with a common voice towards the glory of our beloved school. We intend to contribute everything within our means to make Nyakasura school greater than ever,” Karuhanga noted.
Nyakasura school will celebrate a century in 2026 and the establishment of the Alumni league is seen as one avenue that would aid the moblisation for the celebrations. The league will be played from Kampala road it is expected to start in February 2023.
