The Uganda Police Force spokesperson CP Fred Enanga has warned drivers and transport company owners to only carry the recommended number of passengers lest they will be dealt with an iron hand.
Enanga made the remarkd on Monday during a joint security weekly press briefing at police headquarters in Naguru Kampala.
“We are going to ensure all private and public motor vehicles are operating at the recommended capacity of 3 persons for private cars, two persons for cargo, and for public transport with effect from today’s 2.08.2021,a t 50% operating capacity.” CP Fred Enanga warned.
Today, taxis, buses and privately owned vehicles have returned on the road after 42 days of the lockdown. The reopening follow President Museveni’s nation address on COVID-19 on Friday last week where he partially lifted restrictions on several items.
All private and public transport was allowed to reopen but under strict restrictions such as carrying of 3 persons for private cars, two persons for cargo vehicles, and 50 percent for public transport.
Its however a common habit to operators especially in the public transport defying the set guidelines by carrying more passengers than the directed capacity.
