The Common Ground Council (CGC) of the People’s Front for Transition (PFT) and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) have jointly called on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of violence witnessed during the party’s ongoing primaries.
Speaking during a joint press conference held at the ANT offices in Bukoto on Tuesday, PFT National Chairperson Erias Lukwago decried what he termed as “selective justice,” citing the death of a supporter in Ssembabule and the burning of vehicles in different parts of the country, yet no arrests have been made.

“It is unfortunate that lives have been lost and property destroyed during the NRM primaries, but no single perpetrator has been brought to book simply because they are NRM supporters,” Lukwago said.
He demanded that those responsible be held accountable ahead of the 2026 general elections, to deter a recurrence of such incidents.
Meanwhile, ANT National Coordinator Alice Alaso challenged the NRM to conduct non-violent primaries, urging the ruling party to uphold democratic principles and safeguard lives and property during its internal electoral processes.
“Tomorrow’s primaries must be peaceful. We cannot normalize chaos and bloodshed as part of our politics,” Alaso said.

During the same press briefing, Lukwago paid tribute to the late Supreme Court Judge, Justice George Kanyeihamba, hailing him as a symbol of judicial activism and integrity. He called on the current judiciary to emulate his legacy.
“Justice Kanyeihamba was fearless in defending the Constitution and the rights of the marginalized. We need judges today who are equally bold, independent, and willing to challenge unjust laws,” Lukwago said.
The event was attended by leaders from various opposition parties, civil society activists, and members of the legal fraternity. Speakers at the press conference praised Kanyeihamba’s jurisprudence and called for a more proactive judiciary committed to justice, fairness, and human rights.
