Arua City police has registered six deaths as a result of consumption of alcohol; CITY 5 which they bought on Thursday 18th June. Since the Thursday, of the seven that purchased the alcohol, there is one survivor and the deaths have been occurring from Thursday to Sunday.
On Thursday, two deaths were registered on Friday, one on Saturday, 2 and on Sunday, one.
The deceased include Alioni Isaac;50years, Tito Gordon; 47years, Karibu Cosmas; 53years, Titus Awudele; 51years, Edamara Dick; 43years and Awuzu Nelson; 50. The 53 year old survivor, Andeku O Alija was discharged from the main hospital Arua referral yesterday.
The kiosk where from the deceased bought the product for consumption belonged to a one Norman Godfrey who informed the police that he purchased the CITY 5 alcohol from a local manufacturing factory called Luluwiri Fruit Wine.
Luluwiri Fruit Wine factory was searched and is currently under temporary closure as the police took samples of their alcohol for analysis by government chemists.
Norman was arrested along with 3 other Luluwiri Fruit Wine factory workers in order to help further investigations.
The same incident also happened in Madi okollo where deaths occurred as a result of drinking the same alcohol called CITY 5 from Arua.
According to police, Luluwiri Fruit Wine factory was checked by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards though it was not registered.
As investigations go on, the police recommend that only registered factories with UNBS & City authorities should be the one to work.
