KAMPALA
Over 1,400 Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel from 40 teams are expected to take part in the upcoming four-day inter-forces drill contest, the force reported.
UPDF will hold the second edition of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Inter-Forces Drill Competition from August 22 to 25 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
The competition, held under the theme, “Precision, Discipline and Cohesion, Pillars of National Resilience and Transformation,” will bring together more than 1,400 participants in over 40 teams drawn from the UPDF branches and services.
Col Henry Obbo, the Deputy Defence public relations officer, said the competition will showcase military precision through weapon handling, synchronized movements and various parade drills.
He made the remarks during a press briefing at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala yesterday.
Participants will include senior, junior and warrant officers, as well as other ranks, competing in sword, pace-stick, cane-stick and foot drills.
Obbo said the top five teams will compete in freestyle drill displays incorporating Ugandan cultural heritage, music, storytelling and dance.
The inaugural competition held in May 2025 attracted 16 teams, with the Internal Security Organisation emerging overall winner.
Obbo said the competition seeks to promote discipline, creativity, teamwork, operational readiness and cooperation among UPDF units.
The grand finale on August 25 will be officiated by the CDF, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, with awards given to the best drill teams and commanders, as well as for innovation and cultural integration.
The UPDF and Ministry of Defence have invited the public to attend the competition.
