In a remarkable display of compassion and dedication, Doctors on Mission International, a volunteer-based organization, organized a one-day medical camp at Bulangira Health Center III and Goli-goli village in Kibuku District, on July 27, 2024. The event was aimed at increasing awareness and provide free medical and surgical consultations to the local community, focusing on common childhood illnesses, non-communicable diseases, surgical complications, HIV/AIDS awareness, and general medical care.
The medical camp, held in partnership with local churches, Kibuku local government, and other partners, saw an overwhelming turnout of close to 600 people, who received life-changing free medical and surgical consultations. Specialists provided care and medications, and bookings were made for surgical procedures to be performed later in September at Kibuku Health Center IV.
Common illnesses diagnosed during the camp included childhood illnesses, gynecological complications, surgical conditions such as hernias, non-communicable illnesses like diabetes and hypertension, dental conditions, and eye conditions among others.
“The event received approval from the Ministry of Health through the Uganda Medical & Dental Practitioners’ Council, local council authorities, and village health committees” said Mulyamboga.
Mr. Buyinza Godfrey Kagawa, the District Health Officer, commended Doctors on Mission International for choosing Kibuku District for the medical camp and requested a bi-annual medical camp program to enable more people to access specialized care locally. He assured the organizers that such platforms for care are always welcome in the district.
