A 33-year-old man and his wife have been arrested by police in Mitooma District for allegedly assaulting their daughter to death. According to Martial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the greater Bushenyi region police, the suspects are Herbert Twinamatsiko, a boda boda rider, and his wife Phiona Natukunda, both residents of Kyanzire village. The incident happened on 27th July in Karehe II, Kyanzire Parish, Kashenshero town council.
The deceased, Whitney, was allegedly produced outside of wedlock and was brought home to stay with her stepmother, who had been torturing her for a while. On 27th July, the two parents allegedly seriously tortured the girl to death and hid the body in one of the rooms before transporting it to Rwenshama B in Kanyabwanga Sub-County for burial.
The police were tipped off on Friday by a Good Samaritan and arrested the two parents as prime suspects. The body of the deceased showed fresh physical injuries, seemingly from serious beatings using sticks.
