Miracle Centre Cathedral lead pastor, Robert Kayanja has disclosed plans to establish the first ever interest-free Christian banking institution in Uganda to empower christians economically and improve livelihoods.
Addressing the congregation at his Rubaga based church on christmas day, Pr. Kayanja expressed the need for religious leaders to address poverty, foster saving and promote economic prosperity among the faithful. He noted that like the already established Islamic Banking which gives loans to the population without any interest rates, the Christian Banking will fight poverty and encourage development of christians-run projects.
“We want to start a bank to fight poverty through saving and development as Christians. We see it from our Muslim brothers who started Islamic Banking where one can borrow without interest,” said Pr. Kayanja.
The man of God commended Islamic Banking in Uganda for its existing clear guidelines and principles which allows people to easily save and acquire loans with the bank.
Relatedly, the pastor urged Ugandans to carefully assess the performance of their leaders and make informed electoral decisions in the 2026 elections. He said that leaders who have not performed to the expectations of their voters should not be elected back to their respective positions in the next election.
Pastor Kayanja however warned against election bandwagonism and urged the congregation and the general public to observe caution throughout the election processes.
Yesterday, hundreds turned up for the christmas prayers at MCC Rubaga and Pastor Kayanja challenged them to selflessly help the poor and the needy during this festive season.
